2Ch 34:12
” And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.”
Playing and singing music skillfully is something that is often overlooked in Christian circles. I say this tongue in cheek of course. The most common quoted scripture when refering to music in a local church is “make a joyful noise.” This is absolutely correct, all men ought to desire to praise God with whatever talents he has bestowed on them.
The difference in this verse is those who are ministering in the tabernacle and the temple. I can feel the proverbial stones being thrown at me as I type these words. This is not to say you must have immense talent in musical things to minister in the church. The point I desire to make is that when given an opportunity to honor the Lord, and minister to the people of God, we must require our best. God is worthy of the very best we can give Him, often times this requires sacrifice. Sacrifice of time, sacrifice of effort that good music requires. David said, “I will not offer the Lord a sacrifice that costs me nothing.” I want to encourage everyone who has opportunity to minister in the local church; in any capacity, to require their absolute best to honor the Lord.
At the end of our lives let it be said, “and the men did work faithfully.”
